Emotional Resonance

multi-media interactive sculpture – 2017

An exploration of empathy through Art

In the realm of emotional connection, an invisible bond weaves together our
innermost feelings, the people we encounter, and the experiences we navigate.

At the heart of this captivating narrative is the human heartbeat—an unwavering, individualised response to our emotional landscape. This very heartbeat becomes the focal point of “Emotional Resonance” exploration.

This artwork captures the essence of your emotions, transforming this linear heartbeat into a mesmerizing symphony of light and water movements. In doing so, it crafts a unique and tangible visualization of your innermost sentiments.
Here, the artwork serves as a conduit for the sharing of sensations, a visual language that articulates the resonance of your emotions within the space. “Emotional Resonance” invites you to delve into the profound connection
between heart and art, an immersive journey where feelings transcend the confines of the self and ripple through the fabric of the environment, leaving a trail of heartfelt impressions for all to behold.

#Interaction

Step into sensory exploration where two nearly empty bowls of water are illuminated by the spotlight’s gentle embrace.
Within this enchanting space, a pair of spheres beckon your attention, nestled
alongside each bowl. These spheres become your conduits for interaction and artistic control. When you grasp one, it delicately captures your heartbeat, casting a luminous glow that mirrors the cadence of your pulsing heart.

This mesmerising interaction triggers a meticulously orchestrated mechanism. Like a synchronized heartbeat, water droplets cascade from the ceiling, orchestrating a delicate ballet, matching the rhythm of your own heartbeat into the corresponding bowl. The scope of having two is to“Harmonize Heartbeats with a stranger beside you”. It invites you to engage with your own vitality in a symphony of light, water, and life itself.

#concept

The concept of Emotional Resonance is one of the most brilliant research done about empathy on a biological scale. When we feel connected to someone, movements, rhythm, voice volume, breath intake and heartbeat synchronise. The research on to this art piece was to investigate if art can be a medium for empathy. Are people in the room connected emotionally by a invisible bond made of emotions? can this rhythm resonate through interacting with art?

The exploration of the human capacity to evoke and resonate emotions within a space is a profound and timeless endeavor. Through the expression of art, individuals endeavor to capture and channel their innermost feelings, often seeking to establish a feedback loop with the public. This interactive relationship between artist and audience can cultivate a profound exchange of emotions, fostering a rich tapestry of human experience and connectivity. As art serves as a conduit for the expression and interpretation of emotions, it stands as a testament to the potential for a reciprocal exchange of sentiments within the public itself and leave art to be the medium in which emotions are shared and not only received.

    Drifting

“Drifting” the artwork is a portal to water, a space for light reflection and self reflection. With the use of mixedmedia, the circular transparent material tries to resemble the constant movement of water, contrapposed to our constant status of change. A space for mental health, a space of healing.
